Hylands House is a beautiful
grade 2 listed building , surrounded by over 500 acres of landscaped
parkland.
The last private owner, Mrs Hanbury, died in 1962 and Hylands House was left empty for several years, suffering severe damage from fire and vandalism. The House and the park were bought by Chelmsford Borough Council in 1966 and in 1986 a full restoration program was started. Three phases of work have since taken place and visitors can now see six rooms spectacularly restored and refurbished.
